FitzGerald Morris Baker Firth, P.C. (FMBF) is pleased to announce that James D. Horwitz, Esq. has joined the firm in an Of Counsel capacity.
Mr. Horwitz concentrates his practice in all areas of healthcare law. He served as Vice President of Corporate Responsibility and General Counsel at Glens Falls Hospital for 23 years. In this capacity, Jim was responsible for the legal, risk management and compliance programs. As a member of the senior leadership team he worked closely with administrators on a variety of legal and strategic issues. During his tenure, he established comprehensive in-house legal services that provided legal assistance in areas as diverse as patient care, corporate, employment, medical staff and corporate matters. Jim has extensive experience in compliance matters, contract review and negotiation and Article 28 guardianships. Jim has been a frequent speaker at New York State Bar Association programs on matters of health law and has been a speaker at the Health Care Compliance Association national meetings.
Since leaving the Glens Falls Hospital, Jim has continued his representation of health care providers including hospitals, a hospital association, individual physicians and physician groups. He has also been involved in self-disclosures to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Office of Inspector General, and the Office of Medicaid Inspector General.
Jim received his law degree cum laude from Western New England College of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Union College, where he returned as an adjunct professor for six years. Jim is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the New York State Bar Association.
